Victoria rugby 7s player going for gold at Paris Olympics

Caroline Crossley and her teammates will play Australia in the semi-final on Tuesday, July 30

Victoria's rugby 7s superstar, Caroline Crossley, will be 'trying' for a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Tuesday, July 30.

Canada's women's rugby 7s team beat host nation France 19-14, in the quarter-finals today on Monday, July 29 for a place in the semi-final against Australia.

The semi-final spot guarantees Crossley and her teammates a chance of winning an Olympic medal. Triumph over Australia will see them move forward to the gold medal match; a loss in the semi-final will see them play for bronze against either New Zealand or the USA.

"What an unforgettable year," said Crossley in an Instagram post, days before her Olympic journey began. "Whatever happens ... I have already won."

According to the Castaway Wanderers rugby club, where Crossley is a longtime member, she’s overcome recent injury adversity with surgery and rehabilitation in the last two years.

The 26-year-old previously competed in the Pan American Games in 2019 and 2023. At the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2015, Crossley returned home with a silver medal.

Canada takes on Australia in the semi-final at 7 a.m. PST, July 30.

The gold and bronze finals also take place on July 30; the bronze at 10 a.m. PST and gold at 10:45 a.m. PST.
