The fired-up Westshore Wolves put themselves back in their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League playoff series against the Victoria Cougars with a pair of wins in games 3 and 4.
The Wolves host game 5 on Wednesday night (Feb. 28, 7 p.m.) at The Q Centre in Colwood having tied the series up 2-2. Game 6 happens Thursday (7 p.m.) back at Archie Browning Sports Centre, but the game 5 matchup will be crucial.
Sunday’s 5-2 victory on the Cougars’ home ice in Esquimalt saw the visitors grab a 3-0 lead after one period and never look back.
As they have done throughout the series, the Cougars clicked well on the power play to get back into the game, getting a second-period marker from Mateo Albinati and another early in the third from Darwin Lakoduk.
But the Wolves’ Lukas Yesaki replied with a goal three minutes later and Westshore added an empty net goal in the final minute.
On Saturday, three unanswered goals in the third lifted the Wolves to a 3-2 home ice victory in game 3.
Jaden McNulty in the first period and Sean Patten in the second gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead. But the Wolves roared back in the third, getting an unassisted goal by Brandon Tutte at 4:27, an even-strength marker from Benjamin Duffin at 7:09 and the ultimate winner on the power play from Keegan Durrance less than two minutes later.
The Wolves outshot the Cougars for a third straight game, this time 30-17, and kept Victoria goaltender Patrick Osterman busy.
