According to new Airbnb insights, searches for domestic stays in 2025 are up nearly 20 per cent compared to last year, reinforcing the ongoing surge in local exploration. This builds on the steady rise of domestic travel in recent years. In 2023 alone, Airbnb saw nearly eight million domestic guest arrivals—a record-breaking number, up nearly 30 per cent since 2019.

More Canadians are choosing to stay local, helping support Canadian hosts and small businesses. Along the way, they’re discovering hidden gems and revisiting favourite destinations.

Beyond destinations, Airbnb data also highlights key trends in how Canadians are experiencing travel this spring:

  • Couples are leading the way, with two-person bookings making up the bulk of Canadian spring travel, over 40 per cent..
  • Solo travel is surging, with nearly 30 per cent of travellers in Canada embracing independent adventures.
  • Pet-friendly travel is on the rise, with over 14 per cent growth in guests bringing their furry companions along for the journey.
