A legendary 1948 aircraft that's been rebuilt, refurbished, and repainted is now on display at KF Aerospace's Centre of Excellence in Kelowna.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, 'Miss El', a restored 1948 De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver was unveiled to communities businesses and members of the aviation industry.

“This aircraft stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit and engineering excellence that defined Canadian aviation,” said Argus Properties Ltd. president and CEO Ted Callahan. “Restoring ‘Miss El’ is not just about bringing an aircraft back to life—it is about celebrating a legacy that continues to inspire generations.”

Known to be a cornerstone of Canadian aviation, the versatile plane has been recognized by the Association of Industrial Designers as one of Canada’s Finest Designs. It was the world's first aircraft that was purposely built for short takeoffs and landings.

It first arrived in Canada in 1949 and operated in Toronto, Ottawa, and Moncton, serving the Government of Canada’s Department of Transport.

The name 'Miss El' is a tribute to Kelowna's Hotel Eldorado.

While the aircraft is now being housed at KF Aerospace's Centre of Excellence during the winter months, it is expected to fly again, making its public debut at the Eldorado Resort sometime this summer.
