March. It’s the month of leprechauns, cherry blossoms, and spring whispering its arrival.

And as we shake off the February sleepies and feel the sun reinvigorating our drive to seek out things to do, it’s lucky for us, because Victoria has a lot going on.

Do you need some ideas?

1. Stop and smell the cherry blossoms: Cherry blossom season starts mid-February and goes til May, with the peak bloom usually falling in March. Hot spots that will be pretty in pink include View Street downtown, Helmcken House, Thunderbird Park, and Beacon Hill Park. Consider grabbing your camera and going out for a pre-stroll tea before taking in the sights.

2. See the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit: On March 1 til June 2, this popular exhibit returns to the Royal BC Museum for its 59th year. Take in 100 photos of wildlife taken by some of the world’s best photographers. The exhibit is also for a good cause: many of the photograph’s subjects are creatures at risk of extinction, helping to drive an appreciation for the beauty and protection of nature.

3. Test your smarts: Sixty Watt Trivia are a Victoria-based trivia company that offers popular free-to-play trivia nights almost every night of the week. Monday to Thursday you can find trivia nights being hosted at several pubs and restaurants around the city. Find out what’s happening tonight at sixtywatttrivia.com. Don’t forget to think of a clever team name!

4. Celebrate women: International Women’s Day falls on March 8 and there’s plenty going on. “Who is your Shero?” at Vic Theatre is a night of celebrating women with stories, music, performance and laughter. Kulea Culture Society will present a night of four fabulous women who range from entrepreneurs to researchers to mariners. It’ll also feature creative talents such as dancers, singers, musicians and storytellers. Or, check out the Victoria Women’s Expo at Pearkes Recreation Centre on March 2 and 3.

5. Catch a hotel theatre show: It seems March is the month of hotel-themed plays! Running til Mar. 10 at Langham Court Theatre, Murder Weekend follows a newly married couple who are turning an old country house into a hotel. But a murder game with guests soon becomes more than just a game. Find out more at langhamtheatre.ca. Then, running March 14-23 at UVic’s Phoenix Theatre, the classic comedy The Hot L Baltimore showcases a single day in 1972 when the lives of an eccentric group of people intertwine in the lobby of the formerly grand Hotel Baltimore.
