Not-so-official B.C. Sasquatch bulletins lightening life in the Interior

Sasquatch sighting alerts give some folks a giggle

A couple of people in downtown Williams Lake returned to their vehicles to a surprise the week of July 11.

Beth Holden found a flyer left on her vehicle at work in the Cariboo Regional District Office parking lot for a "Sasquatch Alert." It turned out a friend had put it there, because she'd first found it on her work vehicle, and thought Holden was responsible.

The flyer included a photograph of a Sasquatch and the Ministry of Forests Service logo as an added touch.

The bulletin alerted people to Sasquatch sightings in the area "coming down from the mountains to feed on fish, freshwater clams, vegetation and to mate."

The bulletins told anyone encountering the elusive creatures to not be alarmed and advised people instead to "remain calm, do not run, do not separate from your group" as well as not to chase or feed the Sasquatch.

While they warned people to be extremely cautious should they encounter mating Sasquatch, the flyer's creator did encourage anyone seeing a Sasquatch to take photos, record the location and to report it to the forest service.

Holden thought the flyer was hilarious, and began asking around, wondering who might have pranked her with the well-made warning.

The joke has now spread further, with Holden's friend spotting the bulletin in her vehicle during a trip to Silver Star, in Vernon, where they decided it should be passed along.

The group put the flyer on the window of a tourist's van, hoping to share the humour with some visitors from Idaho, leaving us wondering, who will spot the Sasquatch next?

"It's pretty fabulous, actually," said Holden, who thought the whole thing was a lot of fun.

The Ministry of Forests was not involved in the creation or distribution of the flyers and encourages members of the public to follow the Ministry of Forests for information on actual alerts and bulletins.
