Another Island resident has won the $1-million Lotto Max prize.
It was while Sidney resident Paul Masters was at the grocery store recently that he remembered to check a few lottery tickets tucked away in his wallet.
“My first ticket won $1, the second ticket was $20, which was exciting, and then I checked the third ticket which had a lot of zeroes,” said Master. “I checked again and put the ticket in a safety deposit box right away.”
That’s when Master realized that his ticket, dating back to Aug. 16, won him $1 million.
After hearing the news, the Sidney resident's first move was to call his high school friend and share the excitement.
Masters, who self-described as a music enthusiast, plans to play more synthesizer in his free time and travel to Japan. The man said the best part of winning the lump sum is the peace of mind it brings, knowing his future and his family's well-being are secure.
“I’m not concerned about retiring,” said Masters. “I am currently looking after my mom and don’t have any concerns to make sure she is well-cared for.”
Masters purchased the winning ticket at Shoppers Drug Mart on Beacon Avenue in Sidney.
BCLC stated that lottery players across the province have redeemed more than $114 million from Lotto Max so far in 2024.
Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m.
