When Charlene Davis became president of the Rotary Club of Comox a few years ago, she was mandated to undertake a project of her own.
With this in mind, Davis had the idea of creating houses out of sea containers, aiming to provide shelter for members of Comox Valley’s unhoused population.
This initial proposition eventually blossomed into a fully-fledged non-profit organization called WeCan Shelter Society.
As of June 9, the group is currently building its 10th sea container home in Courtenay’s Maple Pool Campground.
Thanks to the work of devoted volunteers and generous private donations, Davis says that this project would have never seen the light of day without their help.
