PHOTOS: Dentist designs new Peninsula office around aviation dreams

Dr. Chris Souliotis opens Runway Dental is Sidney

The scenery outside seeps into the ambiance of the dentist office perched adjacent to the largest airport runway on Vancouver Island.

“It doesn’t look like a dental office,” said Dr. Chris Souliotis, the man behind Runway Dental.

A longtime downtown Victoria dentist, Souliotis was inspired for the new office after recently earning his pilot’s licence, and a friend pointing out the availability of the Sidney site. “My love of flying made me do this second office,” he said.

Still maintaining the office in Victoria, he built the new site, which opened in September, working nights and weekends over six months.

The office boasts the quality, state-of-the-art equipment expected of a dental office, this one specializing in Invisalign. But harbouring a passion for flight, Souliotis designed the new space himself – with 10 windowed operatories around the outside and the fuselage of a 737 in the middle.

“It’s quite a centrepiece,” he said.

The design is augmented with historic flight-related images, particularly of the ’60s and ’70s “when it was a luxury to travel and it meant high quality,” Souliotis said.

His goal is to have a great place for both staff, currently there are 10, and customers. The plan is to expand soon to add Runway facial esthetics.

“We really want to have a very nice place for patients to come and be happy with their choice. Have a unique experience perhaps.”
