If your idea of a fun family day doesn't include sleds, snow boots and slipping on ice in the bitter cold, Victoria's Royal Theatre has plenty to offer.
Enjoy an afternoon of creativity, music and behind-the-scenes exploration on Feb. 17 during Family Day with Pacific Opera Victoria and Victoria Symphony.
From noon to 3 p.m., visitors can immerse themselves in the world of opera and symphony with hands-on activity stations in the Royal Theatre lobby.
“I am so excited to have this wonderful opportunity to welcome opera lovers both young and young at heart to this event. It is a chance to see the theatre and the whole production from a different point of view – from the stage of the Royal to the backstage labyrinth,” said Brenna Corner, artistic director, Pacific Opera.
At Explore & Play Family Day Open House, there will be actual sets, costumes and props from beloved productions like The Cunning Little Vixen, The Garden of Alice, The Bird and The Little Prince.
There’s no shortage of fun activities to keep folks entertained – from decorating a crown with Kaleidoscope Theatre, fashioning a fox headband or a special rose to interacting with giant bird puppets and trying out a musical instrument at Victoria Symphony’s instrument petting zoo.
“It’s a rare gem to witness such excellence both on the stage and in the pit, so we look forward to welcoming all those who are curious to learn more,” said CEO Matthew White of Victoria Symphony.
Admission to the open house is free, but RSVPs are encouraged to ensure a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone.
It’s a good time to be at the open house to catch some behind-the-scenes action two days before the opening of Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince on Feb. 19.
Tickets for single performances to the Pacific Opera Royal Theatre shows, including The Little Prince, start at $35, with limited $15 tickets available for youth under 18.
