Over the weekend, the Town of Sidney saw thousands of visitors from across B.C. and beyond for the largest in-the-water boat show in the province.

From Thursday, May 4 to Sunday, May 7, boating enthusiasts and sailing aficionados gathered at Port Sidney Marina for the B.C. Boat Show, which was organized by the B.C. Yacht Brokers Association.

“There’s so many, they’re all spectacular,” said Steven Threadkill, manager of the boat show. “We have such a wide range of boats here this year, its quite a broad budget window, and there’s a lot of premium used boats that are in the show this year, as well as brand new ones.”

He said they get up to 5,000 visitors over the weekend.

The show features a variety of boats and yachts from sailboats and comfort vessels to fishing and sport boats, with a wide range of price tags.

According to Threadkill, the most important thing to think about when buying a new boat, is knowing what you’re going to use it for.

“Of course budget has everything to do with it, but, you got to imagine yourself and how you’re going to use the boat, and not only how you’re going to use it, but how much and what your needs are,” he said.
