Church service honours animal companions

The event will be held on the grounds of Christ Church Cathedral to coincide with the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, an annual celebration of the patron saint of animals

All of God’s creatures great and small (along with their human companions) are invited to a special outdoor church service to receive a blessing.

The event will be held on the grounds of Christ Church Cathedral to coincide with the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, an annual celebration of the patron saint of animals. There will be readings, songs as well as remarks from cathedral dean, the Very Rev. Logan McMenamie, who regularly brings his border collie puppy, Moraig, to work with him.

“Animals are a very real part of God’s love at work in people’s lives,” McMenamie said.

The service happens Sunday (Oct. 2) at 2 p.m. on the south lawn of the cathedral, located at 930 Burdett Ave. For details, please call 250-383-2714.
