Interim CEO, Krista Bekkema meets with with Diana Gibson, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head about the planned 13-unit development Ferguson Place in Saanich.

With an uptick of competitive bids during the last hour of its third annual auction, Habitat for Humanity Victoria reached more than $10,000 in its Open a Door art auction.

"The door to affordable homeownership that Habitat Victoria opens is more important than ever," interim CEO Krista Bekkema said in a news release. "We are providing opportunities to families that elevate them from forever renters to homeowners, while providing true housing security."

A collection of 37 once-ordinary doors and small pieces of furniture selected from the Victoria or West Shore ReStores were reimagined into one-of-a-kind works of art, highlighting the extraordinary imagination and talent of community artists. The art auction, with community enthusiasm and generosity, amassed $10,700 to support Habitat’s mission to build strength, stability, and independence for families across Greater Victoria.

Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s next affordable housing complex – Ferguson Place in Gordon Head – is a 13-home project.
