The Township of Esquimalt got into the spirit of the season recently by hosting lunch-hour events that, combined with payroll deduction donations and 50/50 draws, are expected to raise more than $9,000 for the United Way of Greater Victoria.
A Halloween chili cook-off held Oct. 31 saw several departments, as well as Coun. Lynda Hundleby, put forward their best recipes to be judged by staff members. The winners were Sean Plater and Ray Robirtis from VicPD’s Esquimalt division.
Earlier in October a barbecue was held at the public safety building, with Esquimalt firefighters doing the grilling duties.
The Township is one of numerous organizations and offices that runs United Way fundraiser campaigns through the fall months. For more information about creating a payroll deduction plan for your office, call United Way Greater Victoria at 250-385-6708 or visit uwgv.ca.
