PHOTOS: When work's a dumpster fire, East Sooke firefighters tackle training

Local business supports crews with donation of bin to burn

Every year firefighters are required to maintain certain job performance requirements – including learning to extinguish a dumpster fire.

Thanks to Sooke Disposal which donated an old bin for the blaze, East Sooke crews tackled that training Thursday (Nov. 28).

“By donating this dumpster it allowed us to build a training prop to have at the station to be able to complete this required training annually,” the department said on social media.

The team hit a series of training scenarios that night using the East Sooke fire’s new propane live fire props.

East Sooke Fire Volunteer Department is a dedicated organization that provides fire/rescue and education to the community of 1,700 residents and businesses.

Always open to new recruits, the department trains Thursday nights at the hall, 6071 East Sooke Rd. Learn more at eastsookefire.ca.
