Saanich grad's determination earns her $50,000 scholarship

Sarah Masse will be studying biochemistry and forensic science at UBC in Vancouver

A Reynolds Secondary grad has landed a significant boost towards her future studies in biochemistry and forensic science.

Sarah Masse has been awarded a $50,000 post-secondary scholarship with The Cmolik Foundation in recognition of her achievements in overcoming adversity and excelling in her studies.

“As Sarah’s Science 10 teacher, I witnessed firsthand her exceptional work ethic, resilience, and dedication to both her education and community,” says Tracey Foster, a teacher at Reynolds Secondary. “She is adaptable, self-motivated, and committed to achieving her goals. Despite her many talents, she remains humble, often underestimating her own strengths. Her combination of ambition and modesty makes her an inspiring individual with immense potential.”

Masse is set to head off to Vancouver's University of B.C. campus, where she will work towards a dual major in biochemistry and forensic science.

“I have been very interested in science for the past few years, especially lab and practical work,” she said.

Masse's interest in science led her to join the Reynolds Reybots, making several trips to the FIRST Robotics world championships.

She's hoping to go on to work for a forensic science lab with the RCMP following university.

The Cmolik Foundation was founded in 2008 to provide opportunities for youth who have experienced adversity in their lives, with 100 B.C. students currently enrolled in its scholarship program.

"The Cmolik Foundation believes in the power of education to transform a student’s life journey," according to the release. "In addition to providing students with the funding to realize their dreams, the foundation provides students with a mentor, a supportive community of scholarship peers and alumni, as well as access to ongoing special events and professional opportunities. Students become part of a larger community dedicated to their post-secondary success.
