The 29th annual Sampson Family Intertribal powwow, a multi-generation event, designed to foster community and honour traditions, will take place on the lower Tsartlip soccer field at the end of Stellys Cross Road in Central Saanich from July 19-21.
The event will also celebrate event organizers' mother, grandmother and great grandmother Alice "Wətanmy" Sampson.
“As we welcome you into our WSÁNEĆ First Nation territory and our powwow circle, we will share just a small portion of what our mother passed on to us,” reads Honouring Wətanmy Powwow’s website. “It is our hope that ... you come away with a little understanding of our way of life and our cultural practices.”
Only certified service dogs are allowed at the event. A concession will offer food, the proceeds of which will help fund the powwow. Also car-pooling should be considered as there is limited parking at the field.
