Signs of summer: Hanging baskets herald the season in Victoria

Flowers on lamp posts dates back to 1937 in Victoria

Signals of summer are as different as each person’s character. But for many, the 1,200 hanging flower baskets adorning downtown Victoria officially kick off tourist season in the Capital City.

Now iconic, the baskets were first installed along Victoria streets in 1937.

The city’s famed hanging baskets narrowly missed cuts during budget talks earlier this year, but could be cut in half as a cost-saving measure next year.
