The Shelbourne Community Kitchen is cooking up an exciting partnership to raise funds for kids returning to classrooms this September.
A longtime supporter of the Saanich non-profit, Thrifty Foods is hosting a barbecue at the Tuscany Village store on Sunday, Aug. 31 to support the Back to School Stock Up campaign. The business is donating the food and both Thrifty’s and Kitchen staff will don aprons for the event.
“Working with the Shelbourne Community Kitchen has been such a rewarding experience for all the staff at Tuscany Village Thrifty Foods,” store manager Kat Yeomans said. “To be able to see firsthand the benefits our contributions make is all worth it. The team at The Kitchen have been so wonderful and are so dedicated to helping the community; we feel fortunate to have found this partnership.”
The Back to School Stock Up campaign aims to raise $12,000 to support students in kindergarten through Grade 12 who live in food-insecure households across Saanich and Greater Victoria.
“At this point, we are asking for cash donations, which allow us to purchase fresh ingredients for school lunches and family meals at home, including healthy proteins, produce, dairy, and other perishable items that are essential for growing minds. Your dollar will stretch further as we work with local suppliers to buy in bulk and get the best deals,” executive director Kim Cummins said.
The barbecue fundraiser is Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tuscany Village Thrifty Foods, 1626 McKenzie Ave.
