UPDATE: Medals found in Saanich belonged to veteran who survived D-Day

Ashton Armoury Museum shows interest in Second World War badges

Harnessing the power of humans on the internet, Saanich police happily returned a bundle of old military insignia to its rightful owner.

The department turned to social media Aug. 15, posting a photo of the pins, badges and collar badges to find the owner of the items and a brown case.

Facebook sleuths deduced quite rightly they were Canadian military insignia – a cap badge, collar dogs, shoulder badge, and ID bracelet from the Second World War.

Saanich police took to social media noting the original owner was a veteran who served in Normandy on D-Day and died in 2016.

“The family is very grateful to have these items back. Thank you to all that commented and assisted!” the post reads.
