West Shore RCMP answer questions at Westmont Montessori School in Metchosin

Over 50 students asked a range of questions about how to be police officer

Cst. John Varley of the West Shore RCMP community policing unit answered some questions at Westmont Montessori School in Metchosin, including one about defeating a ninja.

“Our job is to keep people in the West Shore safe and be there for them when they need help,” he said.

Varley visited the preschool and kindergarten classes, where 50 students asked a range of questions about how to be police officers.

“Not only are we helping to educate the students on the role of the RCMP here in West Shore, but we’re also helping to create a level of trust. It allows us to break barriers and show them we are here to help.”

Students tried on Varley’s tactical vest and sat in his police cruiser as he demonstrated the different sirens and lights.

The West Shore RCMP said that Cst. Varley’s skills have not been tested against a ninja, but the officer will return to the school for a soccer game.
