Victoria’s Christ Church Cathedral will welcome 2025 with the sounds of Baroque France during its annual New Year’s concert.

Victoria’s Christ Church Cathedral will welcome 2025 with the sounds of Baroque France during its annual New Year’s concert.

The event, co-hosted by the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Pacific Baroque Festival and Christ Church Cathedral, will take place on Jan. 1 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Marc Destrube will lead the ensemble alongside four emerging singers in a program featuring Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel, a 1694 composition inspired by traditional French Christmas carols.

Performers include soprano Isolde Welby, alto Olivia Duffin, tenor Tim Carter, and baritone Jordan Rettich. The ensemble features Baroque violinists Marc Destrube and Kathryn Wiebe, violist Joanna Hood, viola da gamba player Natalie Mackie, as well as organists Christina Hutten and Mark McDonald.
