'Footloose' extended to Aug. 31 at Chemainus Theatre

Popular musical extended for eight more shows due to high demand

The dancing’s not over yet.

Footloose, the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s high-energy summer musical, has been extended until Aug. 31.

Originally scheduled to close Aug. 24, the production will now run for eight additional performances, giving theatregoers more chances to experience the feel-good 1980s classic on stage.

Based on the hit 1984 film, Footloose tells the story of big-city teen Ren McCormack, who moves to a small town where dancing has been outlawed. Packed with iconic songs such as 'Let’s Hear It for the Boy' and 'Holding Out for a Hero', the stage version blends nostalgia with explosive choreography and heartfelt performances.

The show opened June 27 and quickly became one of the season’s hottest tickets. Many performances have sold out and buzz from patrons has helped fuel demand for an extended run.

Footloose is directed by Mark DuMez with choreography and associate direction by Tracey Power.

Tickets for the extended dates are on sale now at the theatre’s website at chemainustheatrefestival.ca.
