Victoria’s Craigdarroch Castle is hosting two theatre productions this fall with the return of a one-man version of Frankenstein and a theatre company’s improvised mobile murder mystery.

Jason Steven will perform two nightly shows of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein classic from Oct. 19 to 21 and Oct. 27 to 29. The classically trained actor has worked for many years in the U.K. and New York, but has also appeared in a number of Canadian film and television roles along with theatre performances in Victoria and Vancouver.

In November, The Paper Street Theatre Co.’s first post-pandemic return to Craigdarroch Castle features four nights of its Murders on Paper Street production.

The performance follows a vintage cast of colourful and cliche characters as a body turns up at the castle.

The story, inspired by best-selling author Agatha Christie, sees the cast figure out who did it, how it was done and who’s next.

The award-winning Paper Street Theatre Co. has been featured at festivals around the world as it creates improv that feels like theatre.

The one-hour production takes place throughout the castle, requiring the audience to travel along with the performers. The two-a-night shows run Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at 8:30 p.m.

Craigdarroch Castle notes it has 87 steps and no elevator.

Tickets for the shows are available in advance only by calling 250-592-5323 or visiting the Castle Visitor Centre at 1050 Joan Crescent. Tickets for Frankenstein are available now, while tickets for Murders on Paper Street will be available in early October.
