Disaster relief programs in Japan will be assisted by April 9 benefit concert at Tom Lee Music in Langford.

Connection to Japan strong for musical instrument retailers

Tom Lee Music Victoria is hosting a benefit concert April 9 to aid victims of the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Music students and teachers are encouraged to perform in this community based benefit concert. Please register via e-mail to joanne.devolder@tomleemusic.ca or by calling 250-383-5222.

“The main thing is we’ve all been deeply affected by the stuff going on in Japan,” said Simon Phillips, Tom Lee regional manager for the Island.

“In the music business we have a lot of partners in Japan that we work with. (The concert) raises awareness of their plight, but also (reminds people) we need to step up our preparations as well.”

The concert goes from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 at Colwood Pentecostal Church, 2250 Sooke Rd. Admission is free, but audience members are encouraged to donate what they can.  Proceeds go to the Canadian Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.

Donations can also be made at Tom Lee Music, 105-2401D Millstream Rd. Call 250-383-5222 for more information, or visit www.tomleemusic.ca.
