The great musical cover-up comes to Victoria

Collective offers night of Dylan tunes back to back

Ten Victoria musicians come together to cover one classic album – for 10 bucks, one night only.

Coming March 16 to the Victoria Event Centre is the second instalment of Victoria Covers: paying homage to Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited.

Organizer Wes Borg hopes the top-to-bottom album performances will lead to more side projects between the city’s musical talents, in a format that will allow musicians to collaborate when they’re willing and able.

“I’m trying to build a Victoria version of Broken Social Scene, where it’s people who already have their own projects and they just kind of come together in a collective,” he said.

“And it’s going pretty good. They’re rehearsing like crazy.”

David Chenery of Lonesome Valley Singers leads a band that includes Tolan McNeil, Rad Juli, Grayson Walker, Kelly Klassen and MD Wren.

The project kicked off with Flood by They Might Be Giants. Next up after the night of Dylan is an ode to Ween’s Chocolate and Cheese. The date has not yet been set.

Tickets are $10 in advance at Regalia Boutique, 16 Fan Tan Alley, or $15 at the door.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., showtime is 8 p.m.
