Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox, originally from Victoria, was established by guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante in 2017.

For the second year in a row, Victoria's own heavy metal band Spiritbox is up for a Grammy, with their song Cellar Door nominated in the Best Metal Performance category.

"We are so honored to be nominated two years in a row off the same EP and to be amongst all these incredible nominees," said the band in an Instagram post.

Last year, the band, which formed in 2017 in Victoria, was nominated for Best Metal Performance for their heavy single Jaded.

Since then, the band has continued to rise under the success of their latest EP titled The Fear of Fear (2023), which peaked at number 116 on the Billboard 200 and is liked by 98 per cent of Google users who rated the album.

Spiritbox toured with heavy metal legends Korn in 2024 and collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on her MEGAN: ACT II project.

Local fans, including Victoria Coun. Matt Dell, took to social media to give their congratulations. "This band is absolutely one of the greatest heavy metal bands in the world today, and I'm very proud they are from #yyj," Dell said in a post on X.

Coming up in 2025, Spiritbox is also noted as one of the top performers at Download Festival, a huge rock festival in the UK, in June.

The 2025 Grammy Awards take place Feb. 2 and can be watched on CBS and Paramount+.
