West Shore residents are in for a treat this weekend when one of the world’s leading percussive duos comes to town.

tHUNder Duo includes master percussionist Kornel Horvath and rising-star drummer Gabor Dornyei, whose energetic rhythms and techniques combine diverse international musical styles, ranging from traditional to modern.

The duo’s popularity has continued to rise in the U.S. and the U.K. recently, and following concerts and drumming clinics in Europe, Asia and the U.S., will be making a stop in Langford on Saturday, Nov.4.

“We are very excited to bring this unique and high quality concert to the West Shore,” said Andreas David, drum instructor and owner of the Westshore Music Academy.

“To see them playing together using hand drum instruments that are thousands of years old in combination with the modern drum set that has only been around for a bit more than 100 years, will be a treat for our eyes and ears.”

The performance takes place at the Belmont Secondary School theatre, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults or $15 for youth, aged 18 and under, and are available at the door.

In addition to the performance, Dornyei will also be offering a four-hour workshop for advanced drummers at the Westshore Music Academy (134-1039 Langford Pkwy.) on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 250-532-0228 or email westshoremusicacademy@shaw.ca.
