The BC Derby will witness its latest instalment as Pacific FC will play host to Vancouver FC during the 2025 Telus Canadian Championship preliminary round.
This matchup will take place on May 6, at Langford's Starlight Stadium, with kick-off slated for 7 p.m. The matchup between the two sides will set the tone ahead of four regular-season games in 2025.
Since the founding of Vancouver FC in 2022, the two teams have squared off on eight occasions, with Vancouver winning five of those matches. All of their meetings have taken place during league play, making this the first time they will meet in the Canadian Championships.
Pacific FC has fallen short in the semi-finals during the past two campaigns, both times to the eventual winners, the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Canadian Championship is the country's premier domestic tournament. Clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS), the Canadian Premier League (CPL), and the champions of Ligue1 Quebec, League1 Ontario, League1 Alberta, and League1 BC compete for the title of Canadian champion.
In addition to national pride, the tournament winner will earn a berth in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
This year, the tournament will expand from 14 to 15 teams, with last year’s champions, the Vancouver Whitecaps, receiving a bye through the preliminary round. The remaining 14 teams will battle it out in preliminary-round matchups, with the seven winners advancing to the quarter-finals, where they will be joined by the Whitecaps.
The winner of the single-leg preliminary-round match between Pacific FC and Vancouver FC will progress to face either Cavalry FC or Edmonton Scottish United FC of League1 Alberta in the quarter-finals.
While the Canadian Championship kicks off in May, Pacific FC will open their 2025 regular season with a matchup against Valour FC on April 5.
