Filled with cheeky jokes such as three hens sipping fancy coffees in front of the Eiffel Tower, the Magic of Christmas is back at Butchart Gardens.
While the flowers sleep, the tourist destination in Brentwood Bay decorates with boughs of greenery and brings them to life with a plethora of lights and displays – including scenes depicting The Twelve Days of Christmas (hence the cheeky reference to French hens).
The world-famous 55-acre garden was created by Jennie Butchart, and is still privately owned and operated by the family. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2004 for its 100th birthday.
This annual tradition of twinkling lights, festive greenery, and magical displays kicked off Dec. 1 with an official light-up and free carousel fries.
The display is on nightly through Jan. 6, 2025.
That’s also the deadline for kids aged 12 and younger to participate in the snowflake exchange. Youngsters can make a snowflake at home from a standard sheet of white paper and bring it to the coffee shop to exchange for a cup of hot chocolate. Creations are considered to adorn the windows of the shop throughout the season.
Reservations are recommended for the other two eateries on site.
The gardens are open from 3 to 9 p.m. with viewing until 10 with visitors encouraged to reserve their entrance ticket and time online at butchartgardens.com.
