The Saanich Peninsula offers an array of romantic activities perfect for a memorable date. Here are five ideas to impress your special someone:
Check out the sunset or stars on Bevan Fishing Pier
Grab a beverage to-go in downtown Sidney, then walk over to the pier. Enjoy the bright smell of the sea where harbour seals and Dahl porpoises are known to pop up. Or, go at night, let the moon hit your eye like a big pizza pie, and that’s amore! Speaking of pizza … there are many fantastic restaurants within a short walk.
Do a self-guided Sidney art tour
Take a self-guided art tour of art and cultural installations in downtown Sidney. The Sidney Sculpture Walk features the works of more than 13 artists on Sidney's waterfront. There are also several art galleries on Beacon Avenue and others scattered around downtown to enjoy. Impress your date with this cheesy nautical-themed art joke: What do pirates do in their free time? They make arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.
Music in the Park
Enjoy original live music on Wednesday nights for seven weeks in July and August from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in HEL,HILEȻ Park. Make it dinner and a show by bringing a picnic or checking out the food vendors! Don’t forget your lawn chair or picnic blanket to get cozy! brentwoodbay.info/music-in-the-park
Visit a cidery
Drop by Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse (seacider.ca), which has a beautiful view of the Haro Straight, Mount Baker and over 1,300 apple trees. Plus, there’s a menu with sharing plates, including charcuterie. Further north, Victoria Cider Co. (victoriaciderco.ca) offers an award-winning keeved cider and a farm-rustic tasting room – a romantic spot as any!
Rent a ‘fun mobile’
Magic carpet rides unfortunately don’t exist yet, but e-bikes do and they’re almost as exhilarating. With an e-bike, you can show your date the world – or at least the world of the Saanich Peninsula – as you cruise on oceanfront trails, down country back roads and through the towns. Port Sidney Marina (mbmg.ca/portsidney-adventures) offers rentals, as does Cycle Sidney (cyclesidney.ca), which operates by appointment only from a private art studio in Sidney’s west side. It’s a unique way to enjoy the views while getting your hearts beating … even faster.
