Royal Roads University has appointed Lori Wanamaker as its next chancellor and chair of the board of governors.

Coming into her new role on Aug. 1, Wanamaker is a former deputy minister to the premier and head of the B.C. Public Service. She brings more than 30 years of public sector experience and previously served on the Royal Roads board as a lieutenant-governor-in-council appointee.

An alum of the university’s MBA in Executive Management program, Wanamaker will take on both ceremonial and governance roles under Royal Roads’ unicameral model. She will preside over convocations and lead the board, which combines the responsibilities of a traditional university senate and board.

Wanamaker has held senior roles in multiple ministries and served on boards including BC Hydro, BC Infrastructure Benefits Corporation, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia. She will be officially installed during the university’s convocation ceremonies in November.

She succeeds Nelson Chan, whose term ends in July.
