PHOTOS: Tour de Rock leaves Port Alice, stops in Port Hardy for lunch

After receiving a giant $15,000 cheque, Tour de Rock left the Village of Port Alice early in the morning

Vancouver Island's signature September cancer fundraiser is underway.

Law enforcement and emergency services personnel have begun the 1,200-km Tour de Rock bike ride across Vancouver Island, also known as Cops for Cancer, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

After receiving a giant $15,000 cheque, Tour de Rock left the Village of Port Alice early in the morning on Sunday, Sept. 22, arriving at the Applewood Ford dealership in Port Hardy around noon for lunch and fundraiser head shaves before riding off to Port McNeill where they stayed the night before leaving for Woss on Sept. 23.

More to come.
