In the early morning hours of July 1, 2025, RCMP officers in Courtenay executed a search warrant at a residence in the city as part of an ongoing investigation.
The day prior, on June 30, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of uttering threats. The threats were reported to be direct and serious, and were witnessed by an officer attending the scene.
To maintain the integrity of the investigation and to obtain the best possible evidence within the rules of admissibility, police obtained a search warrant for a residence associated to the suspect.
The warrant was executed with the support of the Emergency Response Team, crisis negotiators, Police Dog Services, and frontline officers.
During the search, police located a firearm. Four individuals inside the home were arrested and one of them is now facing charges.
Derrick Bullen, 42, has been charged with uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while prohibited. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
