Wildfires lead to evacuation order and alert in the Kuyakuz Lake Area

Due to wildfires in the region, the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has issued an evacuation order for 30 parcels in the Kuyakuz Lake Area, effective August 9. This order covers 33,648 hectares.

Additionally, an evacuation alert has been issued for 28 parcels in the same area, covering 88,481 hectares due to the wildfire burning north of Blackwater River in the Prince George Fire Centre. The evacuation order and alert are a result of several out of control wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre.

Residents in the areas covered by the evacuation order are instructed to leave immediately.

Those who choose to ignore this order and remain in the area do so at their own risk, and emergency responders may not be able to assist them, said EOC. The designated evacuation route is eastward to Quesnel.

Given the immediate danger posed by the fire, RCMP and other groups will be expediting this evacuation.

Residents in areas under evacuation alerts are advised to prepare for a potential evacuation order. This includes creating a transportation plan for all family members or co-workers, preparing grab-and-go bags for each person, with essentials like clothing, food, toiletries, medications, eyeglasses, important documents, and optional keepsakes and ensure dependents and pets are ready by gathering comfort items, kennels, or leashes to facilitate a smooth evacuation.
