Rumours are circulating on the West Shore about the future of two retail giants in Langford following a multi-million sale.
The land and building at 789 McCallum Rd., which is currently home to office supply retailer Staples, has been bought by Costco Wholesale Canada for $14 million.
Costco Wholesale's plans for their new acquisition, which neighbours their Langford branch, are currently unknown. A member of the management team at the Greater Victoria branch told Goldstream Gazette they were unaware of what was in store for the site.
Staples was also unable to say what the purchase could mean for the retailer, with a spokesperson telling Goldstream Gazette they do not have any details regarding future plans.
Costco's Langford branch currently occupies 13.8 acres, with a warehouse store, parking lot, gas station and tire centre. According to the BC Assessment website, the land and buildings are valued at almost $36 million.
Purchase of the additional site adds 2.3 acres to their land holding.
While the community waits for news about the future plans, speculation has been rife on social media, with many welcoming the idea of more space at the busy location.
"Move the tire centre into Staples and expand the warehouse into the existing tire centre area and a bit beyond," said one local's post.
