Holiday sequel to Jane Austen classic coming to Victoria stage

The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley opens Nov. 13 at Langham Court Theatre

The Langham Court Theatre Society is bringing a Jane Austen-inspired romantic comedy to the stage to help Victoria audiences get into the Christmas spirit.

The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley is a companion piece to Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, opening Nov. 13 at Langham Court Theatre.

As the story unfolds upstairs at Pemberley, the servants downstairs find themselves in the midst of a holiday scandal. An unwelcome visitor has stumbled into the hall in the middle of the night – Mr. Darcy’s nemesis and Lydia’s incorrigible husband, Mr. Wickham. This story delves into class, privilege, family, and forgiveness.

The play – written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, and directed by Janine Longy – stars Branden Hutchison, Helena Kantowicz, Andrew Shum, Brittany Pilgrim, Janet Hietter, Emme Sait and Noah Gallant.

The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley runs Nov. 13-16, Nov. 20-23, and Nov. 27-30 at 7:30 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 17, 24 and Dec. 01. Tickets are $26 for general admission, $24 for seniors (65+) and $19 for students, with the Nov. 13 preview performance featuring a special price of $18 for all audience members. An American sign language-interpreted performance will be held Nov. 20 at the theatre located at 805 Langham Court. Tickets can be purchased online at www.langhamtheatre.ca or by calling the Box Office at (250) 384-2142.
