Packed with showstopping moments – from celebrity appearances and fan-led panels to live performances and creative competitions, Island FanCon 2025 also leaves a lingering economic impact.
The second annual event held in Langford at the end of March injected $1 million into the local economy, according to event founder Lonnie Eckardt.
“We’re incredibly proud of the continued momentum FanCon has gained,” Eckardt said in a news release. “To bring such a widely diverse group of talent, generate over $1 million for our local economy, and give fans an epic experience in Langford – it’s beyond exciting.”
Thousands of fans, artists, performers and vendors gathered for a weekend that blended community, creativity, and commerce, thanks in large part to the support of title sponsor Viking Group. President Ben Gulbrandsen’s leadership was instrumental in securing none other than UFC icon Georges St-Pierre for his first-ever appearance in Langford, Eckardt said.
The return of fan-favourite attractions brought nonstop energy to the venue. The Speak Up! initiative invited fans to take the mic and share the stage with celebrity voice actors, while the massively popular Cosplay Contest showcased stunning craftsmanship and character transformations. Gaming tournament ConQuest saw competitors face off for glory and prizes while the trivia showdown Fandemonium added to the interactive experience.
On the main stage, attendees were treated to a diverse lineup of talent, including the sharp-witted stand-up of Curran Dobbs, the captivating musical stylings of Joan Bessie and special guest appearances.
The hilarious Napoleon Dynamite cast reunion offered nostalgic laughs and quirky charm, while panel discussions offered behind-the-scenes access to stars and creatives from hit shows like iZombie, Once Upon a Time, and The 100.
With well over 100 vendors, artists, and exhibitors, the convention floor was a thriving marketplace of pop culture art, collectibles and local creativity.
As the FanCon team sets its sights on 2026, anticipation is already building, Eckardt said.
Dates for next year’s event are expected soon, with promises of even bigger talent, deeper community connections, and more unforgettable fan experiences.
