Meagan Brame has come out on top in the byelection for Esquimalt council.

“I feel honoured that people trusted me to come back on council [and] that my track record obviously spoke for itself,” she said on the morning of April 6.

Unofficial results show Brame captured 422 votes, with Kody Thomson her closest challenger at 363, followed by Holly Courtright with 314, James Thomas Myers with 200, Ed Avery with 134, Shawn Stewart with 97, Marcus McCullough with 64 and Cornelis Daniel Bouman with 54.

Brame, who previously served 14 years on Esquimalt council and is also a local business owner, remains dedicated to promoting growth in the municipality while preserving the strong sense of community residents value.

“Our biggest issue is our infrastructure because of the density that is occurring in the Esquimalt,” said Brame. “[I want to] make sure that our infrastructure keeps up with it and our amenities like our rec centres, our roads, all of that.

“[I’ll also be] trying to keep that connectedness as we grow since Esquimalt has always been such a tight community.”

As this marks a new chapter in the municipal politician’s life, Brame said she’s ready to return to her former role and hit the ground running.

“I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work,” she said.
