Mounties seized a “significant amount” of illicit drugs on Salt Spring Island last week.

On Aug. 14, Salt Spring Island RCMP, with the help of Island District RCMP officers, executed multiple search warrants as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

The move resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs, evidence consistent with drug trafficking and a substance police suspect is cocaine.

“We want to ensure the community is aware of our proactive steps towards targeting those individuals who prey on the vulnerability of others and by removing drugs off the street," Salt Spring Island RCMP's detachment commander Sgt. Clive Seabrook said in a news release.

The investigation remains active, and a report will be sent to Crown counsel for consideration of criminal charges.

Those with relevant information have been asked to call Salt Spring RCMP at 250-537-5555.
