UPDATE: One lane open on Sooke Road as RCMP clear cement truck crash

A crash at approximately 2:30 p.m. halted traffic in both directions

One lane is open near the 4500 block of Sooke Road, after a collision between a BMW sedan and a cement truck at 2:30 p.m. halted traffic in both directions.

Westshore RCMP is working to clear the truck, which initially blocked both lanes. Crews pumped cement from the damaged truck into another so it would be light enough for a tow truck to move from the middle of the road.

The BMW sustained significant damage and remains on the road.

Westshore RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott William told a Black Press reporter on the scene that the BMW driver, a 43-year-old Victoria-area resident, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another officer said the truck driver sustained no injuries.

A Facebook video posted by @thecabbieintheyyj shortly after the crash showed one of the motorists involved sitting on the side of the road, with several people offering assistance.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. The police department is asking people with dash cam footage of the area around the time of the crash to contact them.
