A unique summer experience is coming to the 'neigh-bourhood' this July in Central Saanich.

Get your hats, sunscreen and sunglasses ready for a fun day at Picnic with the Herd, organized by Victoria Riding Therapeutic Association (VTRA) on July 12, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Attendees can enjoy a relaxing picnic alongside horses grazing peacefully in the backfield at the VTRA outdoor ring at 6917 Veyaness Rd. in Central Saanich.

“This free, family-friendly gathering is a chance for our community to come together, celebrate the past year at VTRA and spend a relaxing afternoon observing our herd of 13 horses in their natural environment,” said executive director Liz Gagel. “Guests will learn about horse body language, witness herd dynamics and enjoy a peaceful picnic setting.”

While some picnic tables will be available, guests can set up a space on the ground with picnic blankets, chairs, food and drinks.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event. As a safety precaution, dogs are not permitted.

This event is free, but donations are highly encouraged to support VTRA’s equine-assisted services.

RSVP's can be made via the event link on the VTRA website or by emailing admin@vtra.ca.
