Residents are invited to share their thoughts on the Capital Regional District's draft Regional Water Supply Strategic Plan.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) is updating its long-term strategy for enhancing and protecting its water resource for the future and is seeking public input.

More than 430,000 people in the region rely on clean, drinkable water from the Regional Water Supply Service every day.

The service provides bulk water to Central Saanich, North Saanich, Oak Bay, Saanich, Sidney, Victoria, Esquimalt, Sc’ianew (Beecher Bay) First Nation, xʷsepsəm (Kosapsum) Nation, as well as the CRD Juan de Fuca Water System serving View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, Highlands, Sooke, portions of East Sooke, Songhees Nation and T’Souke First Nation.

The CRD and municipalities in the region own and operate water systems that receive water from the Regional Water Supply Service, then distribute water directly to water customers. Water suppliers are responsible for the supply of safe drinking water as well as managing all other aspects of the distribution system.

Residents are invited to share their thoughts on the draft Regional Water Supply Strategic Plan, which will be used to ensure the continued delivery of safe, reliable, high-quality water to the region.

The strategic plan outlines how the CRD plans to manage, maintain, and safeguard the water supply, transmission system, and water supply catchment lands servicing households in Greater Victoria over the next five to 10 years.

Residents can attend a virtual information session March 6 at 6 p.m. and complete an online survey before it closes March 31 at 11:55 p.m. Responses will be considered by the CRD Regional Water Supply Commission as part of the final review process.
