Crews responding to fire along Pat Bay Highway shoulder in Saanich

Crews are responding to a grass fire on the shoulder of the Patricia Bay Highway.  

Police reduced traffic on the highway to one southbound lane near Haliburton Road shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, but have since reopened both lanes in that direction. 

Both directions in the 4600-block of of Elk Lake Drive have been shut down due to the fire response.  

The cause of the fire is still unknown, a Saanich Fire Department official reached by phone said. Firefighters were called about the blaze, located between the highway and Elk Lake Drive, just before 3 p.m. 

A police officer on the scene also told Black Press Media the cause hasn't been determined. As of 4:30 p.m., police had not seen any evidence indicating the fire was human-caused or suspicious, the officer added.
