Millions of dollars in provincial art funding could help "make Greater Victoria a more vibrant and connected community."
On July 16, MLAs Diana Gibson (Oak Bay-Gordon Head) and Nina Krieger (Victoria-Swan Lake) announced the B.C. Arts Council provided over $3 million in total funding in 2024 and 2025 to more than 55 local organizations, artists and events in Oak Bay, Victoria and Saanich.
These groups include the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria ($287,100), the Holocaust Educational Theatre Society ($25,000), the Maritime Museum of B.C. ($22,850), the Other Guise Theatre Society ($250,000) and the Malahat Review ($20,000).
"Greater Victoria is lucky to have an exciting and innovative arts scene that engages, entertains and inspires people across the region and attracts visitors to join in," Gibson said in a news release. "With this funding, they continue to attract people to engage in arts and culture locally."
Krieger expressed a similar sentiment.
"In our region, we have an amazing array of diverse groups promoting arts and creating world-class works," she said. "This support helps them continue to create important work for a time when we undoubtedly need it."
Across the province, over $37 million in B.C. Arts Council funding was distributed in 2024 and 2025.
