Downtown damage: VicPD seeks more victims after vandalism spree

Officers arrest suspect in damage to windows, vehicles in downtown Victoria early Friday

Victoria Police Department is investigating damage to businesses and vehicles in downtown in the early hours Friday (June 20).

VicPD was alerted around 1:45 a.m. with multiple reports of a man damaging business windows and parked vehicles in the 1600-block of Government Street. One witness reported the man overturned a planter near Johnson and Government streets and damaged a vehicle’s side mirror while attempting to smash a window at a nearby business. Another witness reported the suspect smashing a vehicle window near Yates Street at Government.

Officers arrested a suspect in the 1300-block of Wharf Street around 2:10 a.m. The individual was taken into custody and held on pre-existing warrants, then released while the investigation into the Friday morning.

Investigators believe there may be  unreported incidents and are asking anyone who may have noticed damage in the 1300-1600 block of Government Street, or who has other information to contact the report desk at 250-995-7654, ext. 1, and reference file number 25-22968.
