A driver faces assault charges after someone was pinned to a tree in Victoria.

Cristian Ganzo-Murpy, 34, is charged with one count each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a vehicle, Victoria Police Department said in a news release.

Someone screaming for help drew police to the 600-block of Hillside Avenue, near Rock Bay Avenue, on Dec. 1 around 2 a.m. “Officers arrived and administered emergency medical aid to the victim, who had suffered serious and life-altering injuries to his leg. BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived shortly afterward to assist with medical treatment and transport the victim to hospital” VicPD said.

Police found a suspect vehicle abandoned and resting against a tree, but no driver. Ganzo-Murpy subsequently called VicPD to turn himself in, police said.

Ganzo-Murpy remains in custody pending a future bail hearing. VicPD won’t release any further details as the ”investigation is ongoing and before the courts.”
