As work continues to bring what has been hailed as the country’s longest express car wash tunnel to the West Shore, drivers can expect delays.
The developer of the new Colwood Speedwash site, located at 2357 Sooke Rd., is constructing road improvements on Sooke Road near the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The work, which is expected to take place up until July 14, includes curb, sidewalk, bike lane, street lighting, centre median, boulevard landscaping and paving.
Drivers have been advised to avoid the area, or expect delays with a single travel lane in each direction with limited single-lane alternating traffic when necessary during regular construction hours – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Night work is planned for July 13 and July 14 – 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. – with a detour in place via Kelly Road to conduct final paving and line painting works.
Two-way traffic will be reopened after construction hours.
"Traffic control signage and personnel will be on-site, please reduce speeds and follow directions as well as the posted signage," said a City of Colwood news release.
Access to all properties in the area will be maintained throughout construction and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
