Greek Fest Victoria dishes out more school lunch programs

Tillicum Elementary School students and staff had the chance to feast on a traditional Greek meal

Greek Fest Victoria has expanded its community outreach, now supporting three Greater Victoria schools with hot lunch donations and cultural performances.

On Wednesday, Tillicum Elementary School hosted a Greek lunch for students and staff, followed by a youth dance performance and a cheque presentation supporting the school’s meal program. McKenzie and Ruth King Elementary in Langford are the latest additions to the festival’s growing list of recipients.

“We prioritize giving back to the community,” said Tim Petropoulos, president of the Greek Community of Victoria. “Our goal is to support as many schools as possible… and share a taste of our culture.”

Grateful to see the Petropoulos and his team return this year, principal Jeff Dayndum said the event is one both students and staff look forward to annually.

“They make a great donation to our food programs, and they feed the entire school staff and students a wonderful Greek lunch,”  he said.

For over a decade, the event has provided the school with more than 500 meals yearly. Beyond the food, Petropoulos and his team also promote cultural exchange, featuring a live performance by traditional Greek dancers and the Greek national anthem.

This year’s Greek Fest will take place Aug. 22–24 and Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 at the Greek Community Centre (4648 Elk Lake Dr.), offering food, music and dance.
