The public will soon be able to check out to see what life was like on a farm more than 100 years ago at the 1905 Newman farmhouse in Central Saanich.

There will be open houses at the farmhouse on Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 from noon until 3 p.m.

The farm has been restored much to its original state over the past 20 years thanks to several grants, and the interior has now been staged for the first time.

“We have staged the interior of the farmhouse to help tell the story of how the Newmans lived, which is something of local folklore,” said local archivist Sonia Nicholson, who led the work and was assisted by community volunteers.

Newman Farm is now a public park owned by Central Saanich after John and Henry Newman donated it in 2003. The property was relatively unchanged for over 100 years.

Those looking for more information about the open house can call Central Saanich Municipal Hall at 250-544-4218.
